Punjab Bikes Scheme 2024
As you know, the Punjab Bikes Scheme was recently introduced by Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Under which petrol and electric bikes were to be distributed among 20,000 male and female students across Punjab. In this regard, let me tell you that the e-balloting for Bikes Scheme 2024 was completed a week ago, and the list of successful candidates has also been released by the Punjab government.
About 72,000 male and female students from all over Punjab submitted their applications to the Punjab government by the last date, i.e., May 1st, in which about 57,000 applications were submitted for petrol bikes while around 15,000 applications were submitted for electric bikes.
To increase your knowledge, let me tell you that under this scheme, 20,000 bicycles are to be distributed, including 19,000 petrol and 1000 electric bikes, which will be selected by the Punjab government through a lottery. Let me further tell you that for this scheme, separate quotas have been allocated for male and female students, such that out of 19,000 petrol bikes, 11,676 bikes are reserved for male students and 7,324 bikes are reserved for female students. Similarly, talking about electric bikes, out of 1000 electric bikes, 700 are reserved for male students, while 300 are reserved for female students.

Order of Lahore High Court regarding bike scheme
Let me tell you that the Lahore High Court has made the motorcycle scheme of the Punjab government subject to the NOC of the Environment Department. The court has stopped the Punjab government from distributing motorcycles without the approval of the Environment Department. In this regard, Justice Shahid Karim has issued a five-page decision from the previous hearing. Remember, under this scheme, it is proposed to provide 20,000 motorcycles to the students.
Going forward, if I tell you more about this, the court said that by adding a large number of motorcycles, there will be concerns about negative effects on the environment. Therefore, it is important for the Punjab government to obtain approval from the environment department before implementing the motorcycle scheme and keep the scheme pending until the approval is received.

Punjab Bikes Scheme 2024 Delivery Date
In fact, after the decision of the Lahore High Court, the date of delivery of bikes to the eligible students has not been officially announced by the Punjab government. Because, as I told you above, until the Punjab government gets the NOC from the environment department, this scheme will remain pending according to the decision of the Lahore High Court. But it is expected that after the Bank of Punjab completes all the processes and receives the NOC from the Environment Department, the delivery of the first bike scheme will start before the budget of the financial year 2024–25 from the Punjab government.
